Calvary Fellowship Ottawa Update
Here's an update from Andy, Pastor of Calvary Fellowship Ottawa,Canada. By the way, Andy will be at Calvary Chapel Kendall on January
17. Gen, his wife, will be leading worship that night and Andy will
be teaching.
Hello everybody,
We had a great time. About 60-70 people showed up, the music was awesome. Luc asked Gen to accompany him, and then asked her to do a song by herself. Such a sweet time. Colin and his brother Sylvain also played that night, some great songs from his new album. Even their friend Ken Mahoney came out and played a song he had written. Lot's of musicians, very good music, lot's of talent, and lot's of references to Jesus and what He had done in their lives.
Café Supreme is a dream to work with. Javid is the owner and he's originally from Pakistan, although I would say he's very westernized. He told me that when he came in that morning, he had a terrible headache, took 4 Tylenol's and wasn't sure how he was going to make it through the day. At noon, it was still with him, when Gen came in at around 4pm, she could tell he was really not doing well. He told me around 8pm, that when we started, the headache just left. He had a great night physically and financially. He made a couple of comments that lead us to believe that it was a powerful witness to him. His employee Dominic also had a great night, they got signed copies of the cd's, heard a clear witness for Jesus, and told us that they were ready for the next concert.
We had a wide variety of people show up. Lot's of friends and family of the people in the church, some friends and family of the musicians. There was also a few guys from Lifehouse, the 6 month drug treatment program that came out. They had a great time, and we got to talk to them. Some people came from an hour away, that had heard about it. Somehow, it ended up on a community service announcement on the radio, and we had a couple of guys that work on Parliament Hill show up too. We had a couple of walk-ins, weren't sure what was going on, but stuck around, enjoyed the music, and one lady, even though she wasn't all that keen on Jesus, told me that she was a musician, her daughter did 'gospel' music, and ended up buying a cd! The
other odd thing that happened that night, was there were 3 couples there, that at one time were senior pastors, and were all out of the ministry now. That was interesting, and I'm not totally sure what the Lord was doing by drawing them there that night. At any rate they were encouraged, and I got to talk to each one and hear a bit of their story.
It was great to see some people in the church, plugging in and serving, and I think it sent a message to the fellowship that we are about outreach, being in the community, having fun, and telling people about Jesus. Everyone walked away, musicians, Javid, friends, family, wanting to know when the next one would be.
There were several points in the night where you could tell the Holy Spirit was really working. It wasn't a typical concert, we had about 30 minutes of music, a 30 minute break, and then another 40 minutes or so of a final set. The fellowship was rich, the music was great, the sharing was open and honest, it was a clear encouragement to the people that came.
Thanks so much for your prayers. No one that I know accepted Jesus that night. Many seeds were sown. I know we were doing exactly what the Lord wanted us to be doing. I know that he drew some people there that night, just miraculously. I know that believers were encouraged, and I'm sure that I will hear in years to come, testimony of what God did that night in hearts.
Next up, Christmas in the Park. Details coming soon. Basically, we'll be back, weather permitting, in the park downtown, across from the Beer Store, from 5:30-6:30 on Christmas Eve, with candles, coffee, hot chocolate, apple cider, some homemade holiday baking, singing Christmas Carols, and reading the Christmas Story. We are planning on canvassing the neighborhood to invite the neighbors. This could be a great time to make a clear presentation of Jesus to people that wouldn't come to church.
thanks again for partnering with us in the spread of the gospel, you will have a great reward,
Andy
